    About Us

In 1968, a young man named Troy Perry decided that things needed to be different for LGBT people of faith. Having been turned away by his home church and his family because he is gay, he decided to start a church in Los Angeles where LGBT people could worship freely. Twelve people attended the first worship service, held in his living room. That small gathering in 1968 launched the international movement of Metropolitan Community Churches, which today has grown to 43,000 members and almost 300 congregations in 22 countries. (See more about MCC visit www.mccchurch.org) Metropolitan Community Church of Topeka affirms the Good News that every person is a loved child of God, created in God's image, and in whom the Light of Jesus shines. We are all persons of inherent sacred worth.
